Major Performances or Productions

"Little Mermaid" – Based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, symphonic poem by Zimlinski Alexander von Zemlinsky

The ballet was adapted from the famous fairy tale “Little Mermaid,” and the dancers used ballet to mimic sea creatures. The sharp contrast between the mermaid’s pursuit for love, purity and innocence and the sea witch’s evil and creepiness was styled with highly difficult techniques by the dancers playing the characters. The choreographer carefully designed the characteristics and levels of each role. For example, the hallucinatory “Dream-Mermaid Pas de Deux,” was a great test for the choreographers and the dancers but also the most attractive part of this dance.

It is the work of Igor Stravinsky, a legendary 20th century Russian composer of modernist classical music, and was among the classic repertoire of Diaghilev Russian Ballet. It is regarded the first milestone in the development of avant-garde ballet in the 20th century. Seven parts of kaleidoscopic music paint the fantastic scenes of struggles against the dark lord – the depression symbolizing dark lord, the firebird dance representing hope and light, the dream of the girl, the tension of good against evil – all were depicted vividly on stage. The glamor of Firebird, one of the most popular ballet works and music in the past one hundred years, is simply breathtaking.

"Brilliant Ballet Dream“

In this performance, you can enjoy the beauty/cruelty of ballet. We created two new dances: “Opera Aida-Egyptian Dance” and “Mon Coeur est un Violon” for the program. It combined romantic melodies of French chanson and pas du deux to show the limits of love, touching people’s hearts. Other numbers included highlights of the first two acts of classic ballet “Don Quixote” and the third act of “Pirates”.
